Day 18 of Australia Adventure - Whit Sundays, Australia   - May 3rd 2010

Get up this morning and take advantage of the included buffet breakfast that is at the hotel. The breakfast is very good with eggs and bacon, of course.
We board the bus and this is actually the first time after a few days for all of us to be totally together as a group. Everyone is on the bus including Ariel, who is always late for everything.
We leave city of Cairns and the day song is played for most of the crew on board.

We have a morning stop in a town called Cardwell which is near the coast. For the time we have , I make it down to the beach and take many photos. It is a nice sunrise over the nice beach area.
As well a quick bathroom break and some snacks from the store, notice the prices of items in road side stops are much lower compared to the Northern Territory.

amazing view

We leave Cardwell and later on make our way to the city of Townsville which is in the state of Queensland, in case you were wondering. It is a high roller town, as many homes are built right on the side of the nearby mountains. We stop for an hour at the grocery store and pick up supplies for the boat we are going to spend 2 nights on. A whole whack of chips, fruit, Coke and a few cases of beer. Perhaps probably too much for the 2 days on the boat.

Anyways, back on the bus and continue our journey to the town of Whitsundays. We arrive into the town and have some time before reaching our boat. It is a very rich town, with many house built on the hill sides and lots of fancy shops all around. The beach area is very spectacular and looks like a very young town as everyone walking about is under age 30 almost.
first night on Condor on water

I buy some last minute snacks and get a Snickers bar for a pre dinner snack as it is late afternoon.
We make our way on the bus just to other side and get to the dock. Here we grab are small bags and beer and get onto the boat. The sailboat is called the Condor, which was used to race in the Americas Cup, very neat. There is about 17 of us who are doing the Whitsundays Sailing Experience. The boat is very neat, and the quarters are very simple, very makeshift with my sleeping area a hanging metal slab almost. Supper is served and its like a chicken something and veggies served by the crew, very simple but good. Then we go on top and are briefed by the Captain of the Condor. He tells us the history of the Condor and how it operates, as well rules. He explains for about 20 minutes the mechanics of how the on board toilet system works, quite interesting actually.
Then rest of the evening is just hanging out on  deck and watching the sun set. As well, many of us sit on deck and play cards all night. Many silly drinking games all night, in which too many funny things happen, but for some things, what happens in Australia, stays in Australia.
Stay tuned for the next day.
