In case you didn't know those words were taken from Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid and the reason for choosing them as the title of this blog is that the town where Butch and Sundance met their sticky end is close to Tupiza, so much so that die-hard western fans come and pay it a visit. The bus from Potosi to Tupiza was by far my worst night bus journey of my trip so far; it was absolutely freezing, we had three bawling babies on board so sleep was a limited commodity. By the time we arrived in Tupiza around 3am I was ready to sod the expense and head to a hotel, between feeling ill in Potosi and as a result having terrible sleep there as well as the bus journey I was ready for a room to myself. Also the thought of a 4-day 4WD trip roughing it was enough to persuade me alone, and my god was a room to myself heaven, besides it was only for two nights (again at a embarrasingly cheap rate of £7 a night for a twin room with ensuite). My day in Tupiza was just spent chilling out, I managed to get some Spanish practice done, sorted out my tour, chilled out by the pool in the lovely warm weather (it was a damn sight warmer than Potosi, hurrah!), went to the Mirador for sunset and then had dinner with a girl I met on the bus and a few girls from the hotel. A nice relaxing day before my salt-flats adventure the following day.
