The Atlanta Botanical Garden in the Piedmont District is especially delightful at this time of year. Hurry there to see the final week of the Orchid Daze-Towers of Flowers display at the Fuqua Orchid Center. (ending April 11, 2010)

A tradition since 2003, the Orchid Daze exhibition highlights the Garden’s world renowned orchid collection. The largest of its kind in the US, the collection contains thousands of exotic specimens.

The exhibition has been designed to soar skyward drawing the eyes towards the heavens in a series of “living mosaics”. Orchids line the walls and hang overhead in a cacophony of color and fragrance. The Fuqua Orchid Center has been transformed to a colorful cathedral with orchids instead of stained glass adorning the walls.

The Gardens are open Tuesday through Sunday, closed Mondays, from 9 am to 7 pm. Located in Midtown adjacent to Piedmont Park, the Gardens are handicap accessible, on the MARTA bus line, and have onsite parking.

While you’re enjoying this seasonal exhibition, make sure you save some time for some of the permanent jewels, like the Chihuly Nepenthes Chandelier and the Green Man fountain outside the Children’s Garden.
