My courthouse. Shared with vampires these days.
Firstly, I must admit this is actually about Covington, Georgia - a wee town 35 miles east of Atlanta proper. But, I'm allowed a little hyperbole given the situation.

Secondly, this isn't really about travel, although Covington has seen some tourists (see X_Drive's Covington excellent review at http://www.travbuddy.com/Historic-Covington-v307129).

What's exciting about Covington these days is that we're full of vampires.

Yes, vampires. Really cute, sexy ones. Young too. (or is youth a pre-requisite for a vampire?)

The Vampire Diaries http://www.cwtv.com/shows/the-vampire-diaries, a teeny bopper cable TV series shown at 8pm Thursdays on CW, are being filmed in Covington and the second season filming has just begun.
Mystic Falls, Virginia in Covington, Georgia (Covington is older - 1822-2010)

My little town is in an uproar. Normally we have about 15,000 residents in our sleepy little bedroom community and our town square may have a dozen cars on any given day. At night we may have more because of the restaurant traffic, but still...it's a nice, but boring place to live. Good place to raise kids. Good place to get away from, or to visit for an afternoon - then go back to more excitement.

But, now we have vampires. Or more accurately, sexy young (don't forget cute) film stars dressed up as vampires, or more often, driving around our town "indecently clad" freaking out the local farmers and getting busted by the local cops. (is it still considered busted if it's really just a publicity stunt? hmmmm, I wonder if their records were expunged)

I - who used to live in LA and run into actors on a fairly regular basis and, with all the coolness & hip of the LA native, would serenely sail right by David Duchovny or Jamie Lee Curtis or Kirstie Alley and pretend I never saw them - I, yes, I got out my camera and went to my downtown square.
Mystic Grille still in business today despite the hoopla (see the white sign for the CPAs)

Normally I sit on the local sweet shop porch and rock in the yellow rockers and eat ice cream - as any decent middle aged woman would do. Or buy paint or fertilizer at the local drugstore - as any decent homeowner would do. But today, I walked the square (it took 5 minutes to walk around with my dogs so I did it three times) and took photos of all the hoopla.

The stars were not out - they're probably off driving topless or getting arrested again or some other behavior which keeps them in the papers here. But the workers were out in full force, prepping for the big filming this Sunday and most of next week. My little square is now festooned with banners that read Mystic Falls, Virginia!!!! But there are images of MY courthouse on these banners.

It's kind of surreal.
Like going to Universal Studios - but actually living in the Studio.

I can see why they picked my town - it's really cute and I bet it films well. I've never actually seen the first season of the show and have no intentions of seeing the second, but I may go back on Sunday to see the filming now that I've seen the setup. And maybe one of those cute actors will take his shirt off. :-)
