8.4.10 New York City!

There’s no city in the world like New York.  Bustling, high-energy, and historic, it’s lifeblood pulses.

While we’ve been to the city before, the kids were a bit young and so they appreciated it more today.

Grandpa Hill was a wonderful tour guide!  We nicknamed him the "Energizer Grandpa" as we walked until we cried “Surrender!” from exhaustion.  The mid-90’s heat was brutal for those of us having luxuriated all summer in cool Canada.

Some favorite sights were the inside of the NYC public library, the Statue of Liberty from the waterfront, Grand Central Station, Times Square, Wall Street, and a bit of Chinatown.  Charles went gaga over the Apple store where he called Ned on the iPhone 4.  But the real eyecatcher was the 55" 3D TV ($7000) at the Samsung store.

But we also got to see some personal sights, like Grandpa’s workplace (Lincoln Center) and his downtown apartment.  Very cool!

We also ate our way around the city, getting gyros and hot dogs from street vendors, and of course the New York pizza, which Charles gave #1 best rating ever.

Dell kindly drove us to the Stamford rail station and picked us back up at day’s end.  She's just the epitome of a gracious hostess.

Upon getting "home" to Dell's gorgeous tree-lined neighborhood, we instantly hit the cool pool.  Ahhhh.  So very refreshing after the heat, grime, and sweat rolling down the back from the city.  Never before has a pool felt so good!

Then Grandpa treated us all to Chinese food delivered and we had a fabulous evening at Dell and Jim’s, 2 doors down from Ciao’s parking spot.  It was a wonderful, exhausting, exciting day in the city!
