6.18.10 Toronto Fun

Toronto was not at all what we expected of Canada’s largest city.  It was WONDERFUL!  Clean, vibrant, and fun!

Here’s more of why we loved Toronto:

Environmentally Forward:

Bicycle friendly- bike racks everywhere, bikes allowed on sidewalks or streets

Bike Tuk-Tuks for taxis downtown - very cool

Excellent public transportation - in fact, we noted lots of downtown parking spots and few cars driving around

Laws for environment (see pic of idling limits sign- do Americans know idling is environmentally bad?)

            Recycling containers everywhere

Sparkling clean- no litter at all

Nice People:

Always held doors when in front of us

Helpful - very responsive to questions

Nice -no city attitude, very pleasant and relaxed attitudes, known for their tolerance

Diverse:

Immigrants arriving daily into a socially supportive network

Everyone still speaks English with their native accents

NO public transportation disasters today!  Wow!  Here was our path:

  1. Taxi - from Campground to Rouge Hill “Go Train” station ($14 with tip)
  2. Go Train - to Union Station- 35 min.
Tour guide Jazy and the start of our "Eat your way thru Toronto" tour.
smooth and quiet ($21 for a family day pass)
  3. Walked - all over downtown, eating our way through the markets, lunch at delicious Chinatown ($4.50 per person- enough leftovers for 1-2 more meals!)
  4. Subway - to Union Station ($7.50 total b/c the nice subway lady said Charles would be counted as a child today only. J)
  5. Go Train -back to Rouge Hill station
  6. Taxi -back to campground ($15- driver got a bit lost and my GPS saved us.  Includes tip in spite of issues- getting lost really was not my fault! J )

We got a Canada flag for our Texan RV window, which should promote good will.

Happy Birthday to Lia today!

There went all my children discounts.

Yeah Panda gifts
WAAA!  But we were happy to put candles on the cake, sing Happy Birthday, and Jazy and Charles gave stuffed pandas they’d bought for her at the Zoo.  She's excited about jumping a new trampoline when she gets home.

Jazy, who did ALL our tour planning today, even telling us which direction to walk, responded to my comment of:  “It sure is fun being spontaneous today!” with our

Quote of the Day:

 “For you!”

This is true.  It was so nice not having to worry with it all.  Thanks, Jazy!

So I add to my statement of “Take your kids traveling when they’re old enough to make you dinner” with

“and old enough to play your tour guide!”

It sure is great!
