Woke up late today by accident. We missed breakfast but were able to grab a pretzel on the way out of town. We went to Bacharach and walked around. We had some of the best food there. I had a rigatoni and gargonzolla cheese sauce with sausage and broccoli. Lindy had an amazing chicken in Riesling sauce. The trip went from there to shops around the town. We also visited a church called St. Peters in Bacharach. It was fun, first very old European church for me. After eating we took a Rhine cruise back to Sankt Goar which was nice but very cold. We are about to hop back on and go to a market in Boppard. We hope to get food for lunch tomorrow while we make our way to the night train to Milano. Italy should be a blast too.
Just bought .5 liter of Bitburger for 2 Euro! Saw huge bottle of Jager for 4 Euro – compared to $60 in the states!
We picked up Gouda cheese for one Euro, as well as some type of bread for 1 Euro. We will evaluate after we return to Sankt Goar.
We ended up buying bread and cheese in Sankt Goar. We also went to Boppard though. In Boppard we walked around the town, but most shops and cafes closed before we arrived. However, we went to a Penny Market and searched around for some German goodies. We bought some chocolates and wafers that were pretty good. We also bought some bread and cheese to eat for dinner. We also were able to get some orange and mango drink. The beers here are all sold in six packs with .5 liter in each, they cost about the same or less than beer in the states, plus you get more. They also have Jager at grocery stores as a hard liquor. It was only about 4.95 Euro for the ¾ liter as well.
Today we slept in way too late, 10:15 am! And missed breakfast again. (Obama is in Germany tomorrow!) We also missed our ferry to Bacharach, oh well. We ended up getting really good pretzels for 1 euro for breakfast. We then decided to train to Bacharach. Here we roamed around the town, went to the cathedral (not very impressive) and found a hiking trail around the top of the city. After this we got bored because the city was pretty empty but our ferry didn’t leave for 2 hours so we decided to have a nice sit down lunch. I got chicken with Riesling sauce, it was awesome! We then got on our Rhine river cruise, it was freezing and cloudy, but fun! We had to stop in Sankt Goar because we had no hot water so we had to shower and Derek wanted to purchase some steins to ship home. We both got StiensJ Maybe they will arrive home before we do.
We then ferried to Boppard and were going to find entertainment but the whole town was shut down! We ate a market dinner and headed in the train back. I believe we are done with the Rhine area and ready to move on.
