My friend Kelly and I traveled across the country to San
Diego (well Oceanside CA) to visit her sister who is a traveling physical
therapist stationed out in CA.
Love our kids meal!
We only had to pay for the flight and our
activities since we stayed in Keri's apartment. That was a beautiful thing!
On our 1st day we immediately went to San Diego Zoo. Everyone has always hyped
up the zoo, so I actually found it to be semi disappointing. I did miss the
koala exhibit, which I heard was the most amazing, so maybe that was why I was
not all that impressed. Seemed very similar to the Philadelphia Zoo to me.
Well, I guess a zoo is a zoo. Kell and I both ordered a kids meal for lunch,
came with a souvenir bucket of chicken fingers a souvenir cup of soda, some
delicious animal crackers, and some raisins. Haha it was cheaper then the adult
portion of just chicken fingers, so hell, why not? I love being a kid anyway.
After traveling all day and spending the day at the zoo we were exhausted.
The following morning Kelly and I woke up early for an all day tour that we had
Our Limo Bus!
Our tour was called theHollywood Fantastic Bus Tour (Link). The tour bus picked us up from a local
Oceanside hotel, and when I say local I mean literally two blocks from Keri's
apartment. Can't get much more convenient then that! And the tour guide told us
that there were no vans available so we had to settle with a limo bus! Woo, I
love settling! We first stopped off on a street called Olvera Street the
original Spanish settlement. There were little stands selling Spanish trinkets
and bags. Kelly stopped in a little shop to buy a Churro, said it was
delicious. Sure smelled good! From there we traveled to Hollywood. We only had
a half hour to explore the Chinese Theater and view the stars along the road.
The theater was sooo much smaller then I expected, and the area itself was not
too impressive. Rather dirty actually. I did however find my George Clooney's
square, and touched his hands. Mm, Clooney will you marry me? After our short
stop in Hollywood we proceeded to the Farmer's Market. We were told we were
going to spend two hours in the Farmers Market, we were so disappointed to here
that, but OMG best stop EVER. First we stopped for some food. I had an AMAZING
corned beef sandwich with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. SO so good. Then
after stopping for a bite to eat we walked over to the famous LA 'Grove'. Who
knew that we were stopping there? So amazing, could have spent the entire day
window-shopping there. Didn't see any celebs shopping or anything but it was
absolutely amazing there. After that we traveled to Beverly Hills and to Rodeo
GEORGE CLOONEY. LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU.
Wow another AMAZING place. Everyone walking down the street or driving
by was absolutely beautiful. Like plastic Barbies and Kens. Must be nice to
have that kind of money! Wow. Went into Juicy (one of the only stores on that
street that I could afford). Tried taking a picture of their display and was
yelled at. Opps, sorry didn't know it wasn't classy to take a picture. My
bad….snobs. After strolling down the street getting our picture taken by some
really sexy men it was time to head home for the evening. Great day, great
tour, I highly recommend it!
The next day I woke up feeling like hell. I probably had the flu. Kelly
and I decided to head out to Disneyland anyhow. We got to the park and first
went to the California Adventure Park. We wondered around a bit, went on Tower
of Terror, ate some icecream and then went on Toy Story Mania.
Mmm Farmers Market Goodness. Corned Beef, mashed potatoes and mac & cheese.
What a fun ride,
I remember it from Disney World, love it. We went and saw a 3D A Bugs Life
movie, which I also saw in Disney World. We then went over to Disneyland where
we went on Its a Small World. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that ride. I think it triggers
all the happy memories from my childhood. And since we went during Christmas
time it was all decked out in lights, stunning. And inside the dolls sang
Christmas songs in all of the different languages. Incredible. After the ride
Kelly had started feeling ill, most likely because of the ice cream and the
spinning Toy Story ride. We went on Space Mountain, and then headed out of the
park. Disneyland does not even compare to Disney World, but still a good
experience. We then went over to ESPN Zone in Downtown Disney for some dinner.
There was some sort of play off game going on so it was loud and annoying. We
didn't have any other options though; all the other restaurants had long waits.
Rodeo Drive. Glorious.
So we dealt with it. Not a big fan of that place.
The following day we decided to spend relaxing. We slept in,
went to the mall near the apartment, and went down to the beach to watch the
surfers. That night we went to Keri’s apartment complex’s Christmas party. For
$10 you got all the wine you could drink and dinner from Outback Steakhouse I
believe. It was a pretty good deal. They had karaoke and a DJ. We were
definitely the youngest people there but we had a good time dancing and singing
with our new senior friends. After the dinner party we headed out to an
Oceanside bar called Cabo Grill. When we got there I went over and ordered a
Vodka and Red Bull and then went back to dance with my friends. A bouncer came
over to me and told me no drinks on the dance floor. Who has ever heard of that
Disney Land. Kel & I with Minnie Mouse.
I need a drink to dance, come on now. Lol. So I went to the side
and watched my friends dance and have a good time. Let me just say that we were
almost the only girls at the bar. Definitely good odds, love it. Almost all the
guys there were Marines stationed out there. One of the guys Jaret came over to
me and we started talking. He was a nice southern guy (from Alabama), a Marine
just looking to cut loose. We hit it off, went up to the rooftop, which was
pretty nice. They had tables with fire pits and nice bar outside. It was beautiful
night so we just sat and chatted. We then had to leave so we kissed and then I
left. Nice random little hookup. Love the single life. So carefree.
The next morning Keri had off of work so we went to tour San Diego. We first
stopped off at the Oceanside Harbor for a quick breakfast (egg bacon and cheese
on an English muffin) and a cup of tea from the little coffee shop Nautical
It's a Small World decked out for Christmas
We then shopped the stores there shortly. After breakfast we headed over
to Seaport Village a cute little outdoor shopping area with quaint little
shops. We stopped in a store called Bath Junkie and the sales people asked us
to pick a scent and then let us sample a scrub and lotion made just for us.
Felt amazing. Keri bought several things there. Kelly and I only brought a
carry on so had to pass. After strolling through Seaport Village and spending
some time by the harbor we then drove over to the Gaslamp District. Spent some
time shopping there, and got to sample the famous Pinkberry. Supposedly all the
celebs love their yogurts. I sampled the coconut yogurt, and I guess since I
was expecting the frozen yogurt flavor I was disappointed when it tasted like
regular yogurt. Again not sure what all the hype was about. Overpriced yogurt
in my opinion. Next we were off to La Jolla. We stopped off at a beach called
the Children’s Pool.
It really isn't a pool, or just for children, so not sure
where that name originated from (maybe I will google it later). There were tons
of seals laying on the beach there. Amazing. I started to go down the stairs
and was yelled at by one of the employees there. Apparently most of the seals
were pregnant and were irritable. Aw poor babies. So cool to see though. We
certainly don't have seals on the NJ beaches. After spending sometime window-shopping
we went to dinner at the Karl Strauss Brewing Co. They had some incredible mac
and cheese. O the comfort food, so comforting. Keri ordered the beer sampler,
seemed to enjoy it. I personally can't stand the taste of beer, so passed on
that. Very good restaurant though, I was impressed. It was our final night in
CA, and we were ready to go home and get some rest. The next morning was our
flight home. Since we caught some tailwind, our flight was much shorter and
much more tolerable.
Christmas Party with the seniors.
Overall awesome trip! Can't wait to go back over
the West Coast. I'd love to tour San Fran next. Who’s in?
