After a horrendous 60 hour journey home from Alberta (delays due to tornado damage in Manitoba - though I hear things in sheff aren't much better!!), we snatched some sleep in Toronto before heading up to Ottawa this afternoon.
We're staying in the old Ottawa jail, so our room is a cell with bars on and the building is haunted - argh... We've had a BBQ at the hostel tonight and a wander round Byward Market - plans for tomorrow are to see the changing of the guard at Parliment Hill and some museums, before possibly taking in a Canada Day weekend opera show in the park - v.cultured. Then it's off to Montreal for the weekend to meet up with Maher and his family.
I'm sick of trains, but thankfully all the big journeys are over - worst one is 8hr from Quebec City to Toronto next Thurs, then we actually start some Medicine - hopefully will be quite hardcore, so the guilt will pass!
Hope you're all well -lots of love,
Day 2 in Ottawa involved a LOT of walking, but the weather was great - we started the day watching the changing of the guard - a special extended version for the Canada Day weekend (will put photos up soon - they're on Alex's camera) and then visited two fantastic museums - the Canadian War Museum was brilliant and the Museum of Civilisation in Gatineau / Hull, across the river in Quebec, was good too.
Due to the unexpected rain, we gave opera in the park a miss and instead went out for dinner and drinks in the Byward Market at a restaurant bar and grill called the Blue Cactus, which was great, before returning to our cell and preparing to leave for Montreal the next morning...
