Before Ed and Derk headed back home we still had half a day to spend in Istanbul. We efficiently spent our time shopping for some souvenirs and more Turkish Delight at the spice bazaar and smoking our last nargileh underneath the Galata bridge.
For lunch we had one more of those mandatory Istanbul experiences: fish sandwich! Next to the Galata bridge several richly adorned boats lie bobbing on the water, where Fresh Bosphorus fish is grilled by the hundreds. Really cheap and utterly delicious. The boulevard in front of the boats is filled with small tables and seats, which were packed with locals, with many more entrepeneurs selling essential condiments like salad, drinks, napkins and
Another wonderful experience which I can highly recommend to anyone visiting Istanbul.
And then it was time to say goodbye to Derk and Ed. For the second time this month. A bit strange seeing my two good friends leave after a great weekend together, while I continue on my own. (Though Ed will come to visit me once again in India in August)
It had been a great little city trip, for me it felt like a vacation within my vacation.
The three of us have fallen in love with Istanbul. This truly is one of the great city break destinations in the world. Not only is there so much to see in this city, the whole vibe in this city is amazing.
I had a few more hours to kill before my bus to Göreme left, and I spent these on the Internet searching trying to see if I could find some more couch surfers in Turkey. My experience yesterday had been a very good one and I would love to repeat this many more times during journey.
