Our jungle lodge - looked better on the outside, to be honest

Thanks to the people I met here and/or travelled with: Ed (Netherlands)

We left Jodhpur just after midday and four hours later we arrived at our next destination: Ranakpur. This is one of the places we added to our destination by recommendation of Mahinder. Or rather, I had asked Mahinder if there was any place in Rajasthan where we could do a (short) trek, now that our trekking in Ladakh had been cancelled.

The hills and jungle in the surroundings of the small town of Ranakpur seemed a perfect location, though by now Ed and I were having our doubts. Mahinder had not arranged anything for us, we would have to do this ourselves once in Ranakpur.

This wasn't so much an issue, but we were wondering if doing a strenuous walk in 38 degrees with 95% humidity would be any fun at all. We decided we didn't want to find out and booked a Jeep safari instead. This way we could still see the Kumbalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, enjoy the surroundings, possibly see some wildlife and not break into too much sweat. Yeah-yeah, I know, lazy. Who cares?

With the tour booked for tomorrow morning, there was little else to do but to kick back and relax at our hotel slash jungle lodge. Well, we were definitely in the jungle now - no sooner had darkness descended over Ranakpur and the wildlife came out. Six-legged wildlife mainly. The outdoor restaurant was swamped by grasshoppers, which seemed to have a tendency to jump up to people as they walked by.

It was good fun watching how other guests in the lodge reacted when they were attacked by the  grasshoppers.
