The ship pulled into Ocho Rios, which was much different than I remember it when I went in 2000. They took out a local market and added this VERY touristy shopping area called "
The Taj Majal shopping center was still there, but no longer gated off and not quite as well maintained. However, it had some good deals on Jablum (accept NO substitute for Blue Mountain Coffee). At the Taj, we loaded up on rum and other random souvies.
We also went zip-lining with Chukka Farms tours. If you have the opportunity to do this, DO IT! It was absolutely AWESOME! I mean one of those serious life experiences. I'm a thrill-seeker, my mother like life a little more tame, and we both really enjoyed this. I enjoyed the "jump off a platform hundreds of feet in the air and go zooming at 30 mph through the jungle and tops of palm trees" and mom enjoyed the fact that the harnesses were all very well maintained and secure.
