early morning rain shower
Our day in St Barts was magical; it even started out magical.
the shower produced a rainbow
At sunrise there was a  brief rainshower off the bow and I awoke to the ocean waves reflecting pink light into our cabin.  When I went onto the veranda to investigate, I saw a rainbow arched over the water at the other end of the ship.

The rainbow stayed around as we came past St Maarten into St Barts.  St Barts was having a regatta later in the day so the harbor was too crowed for us to dock.  The Prinsendam is a little too large to dock here anyway so we all boarded tenders and threaded our way in through these magnificent ships to get into port.  After days of photographing desserts, I was barely able to put my camera down long enough to get on and off the tender.

It was early and the shops weren’t open so we wandered around town for a little while looking for an easy way to walk to the center of the island.  The roads looked narrow and very busy, also very vertical so we decided to have morning coffee in a café instead.  Then we went west to Shell Beach, the nearest beach within easy walking distance of Gustavia and found another café.  Cathy and I swam for awhile and then joined my husband who had found John (also from the ship) to talk with.  There was Caribe beer for all and a lunch of warm Camembert wrapped in wontons and fried on a salad with honey dressing.

We sat and people-and ship-watched for the rest of the afternoon before catching the tender back to our ship.  Just to make a perfect ending to the day, another rainbow appeared.  This one was a double rainbow and one of the most brilliant I have ever seen.

It was a very good day. I'm hoping all the other ports will match up to St Barts.
