Just a quicky to let you know where I am!!! Had a 36hour train journey from Siliguri to Delhi (it was also 3hours late - love India!) Saw many uniques who clap and ask for money, had yummy chai and experienced Indian families on trains - much crying and crisp throwing! Arrived here at about 1.30am!!! Found an auto and got taken down Main Bazaar, which is a building site atm because they've decided to make the road wider for the common wealth games and have just knocked down all the shop fronts!! Cassi and Kate came to meet us and we checked into Hotel Namaskar (nice only 300-/ per night) stayed up until about 3am chatting with Cassi, and then she and Kate left for Jaipur at about 4am!
Spent Tuesday at Red Fort - really pretty and MASSIVE! Walked round some museums, went to a Jain temple, and then on a tour of Old Delhi. Went to a Sikh temple and were given some tea, they also cater for anyone who wants food - massssive kitchen! Saw the spice market, and got a view from the roof tops across Delhi! Also saw a wholesale flower market which smelt and looked incredible! Then headed into the markets, saw Sari dresses and wedding clothes and were taken to a jewelry shop - real pearls for only 350-/ (less than a fiver!!0 and saw some amazingly beautiful jade ganeshes (suuuper expensive!) and then saw another Jain temple, really beautiful marble statues and intricate painting, there was a guy there who'd been painting for 2years!! After that we went to see the largest mosque in Asia, but didn't go in as it was prayer time. Then wandered up and down Main Bazaar, had a few too many drinks in MY BAr, met a cool traveller called Tom and had a close encounter with a cow. lost and found our hotel key, and realised that drinking and heat are not a good mix!!! Also got into a heated debate with a Cypriot Indian about marriage and love - little bit sticky especially when you've had a few!
Weds we went to Humayun's tomb, the Indira Ghandi monument and the Ghandi museum - saw both of their last steps, quite haunting really. But I still don't really know anything about what they did =S Also went to an All American Diner and had a yummy salad (very bizarre place, in the middle of a centre a bit like the Barbican lol) watched a bit of the football match and then konked!
Today we got up at 5:30 to go and see Kate and Cassi (and the Taj Mahal) in Agra, got to the train station to find that all the trains and all classes were booked and there were no unreserved tickets, so we had to hire a car (stupidly expensive, but there was no alternative!) got to Agra - it was suuuuper hot, fumbled around for a while, got some food and parted with 750-/ to go and see the Taj! Was stunning, especially when you look at it from the south gate with the grounds in front of it! Took some bait touristy photos, burnt our feet on the hot marble and saw the tomb (no where near as impressive as the outside!!) Chilled this eve, had yummy Thali and met a guy who's indian but from Sydney, was very nice and said we could stay with him in Sydney lol!
But anywho, got some more sights to see tomorrow and then off to see the Karma Sutra temples in Khujaraho! Should be ace!!! 2weeks on sat we'll be in THAILAND!!!!! Can't wait! Lol...heat here isn't tooo bad which is nice, but it is pretty hot !
