Starting out in Oklahoma City
left the house in Oklahoma City at about 5:30 pm. Headed to route 66 for dinner at Sid's Diner in El Reno. We had a huge basket of fries, two traditional shakes (metal mixer included), a grilled cheese, and a burger. Food was alright (little greasy), but the atmosphere was straight outta the 1950's. Next we stopped in Hydro at Lucille's service station and souvenir stand (it was closed) for a picture and then headed west. Shortly after crossing the Texas border we ran over a dead deer in the road. There was no time to react or swerve, so our driver's side wheels ran the bitch over. The car didn't suffer too much damage and we somehow managed to escape with no guts to clean off the car. We stopped at the Texas Safety Rest Area to check the car out. There were tons of nasty giant bugs everywhere. The water at the rest stop was disgusting! It was brown and unworthy of hand-washing use. It was late and dark so the rest of the driving was non stop. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Tucumcari (arrived near midnight), where we got the very last room available. Tomorrow we're headed off to see the sights in New Mexico.
