My tent and car at the KOA at Cape Hatteras
I haven't seen many campsites, but this has to be one of the best possible.  It's right on the beach (literally, you can lug all your chairs, towels, etc and walk there), it has a poolside cafe that delivers to your site for free, amazingly clean bathrooms, and it's in open air which means no bugs.

But, anyway, so far this has been the first few days when I haven't been driving - so, I wake up at 7am (when it gets too hot to sleep inside the tent), and have until 10pm (when everything shuts down and some bugs come out) to just lounge by the pool and the beach.  I've been spending almost 8 hours a day reading, which is insane!  The best thing I've read so far on the trip is this article Dan sent me by Po Bronson titled What Should I Do With My Life?  The guy followed hundreds of normal people who had contemplated or made a career change and documented his take-aways in a smart, insightful synthesis in this article, and a book by the same name.

The part that struck me most was when he talks about The Inevitable Cocktail-Party Question: "What do you do?":
... "I too used to think that The Inevitable Cocktail-Party Question was a scourge on our society. But I'm starting to see that it is really about freedom to choose. A status system has evolved that values being unique and true even more than it values being financially successful.

In other words, if you don't like The Inevitable Cocktail-Party Question, maybe it's partly because you don't like your answer."

How true...
