Arrived in Madrid with a delay of 2 hours due to the strike of traffic controllers in France.

Although two transitions a quick subway drive from Barajas airport into town.

After checking in at the hotel it was time to explore Museo del Prado. Walked to ‘Sol’ in a couple of minutes. At Plaza de la Puerta del Sol the first touristic sights. Another walk of about 15 minutes to get to the Prado museum. The Prado houses one of the world’s finest art collections An enormous amount of Spanish, Italian, German, British, Flemish (including Dutch) and French paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints and decorative arts are part of the permanent collection. One of the temporary exhibitions at this moment is ‘Dutch Painters at the Prado’. Taking photos inside the Prado is not allowed.

I was not all that impressed with Madrid, but the Prado is Great. However, just up the street a bit across the way is the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza. When I saw this I could the Prado in balance with it for contemporary ways and leave Madrid happy.
