The Year of Self-Discovery Starts from Home (Chicago, IL, USA)

Well, here we are again. A new year. 2009 was my "annus horribilis". Health issues, work-related stress, and whatever other excuses I can come up with. I got through it and we are in 2010. A new start to life, just like a computer re-boot. I like that analogy. I wish we could re-boot our lives whenever convenient, haha!

I used to travel for the sake of travel, for the pure joy of exploration and learning about new things. After having visited 15 countries and 49 significant cities (give or take) the last 45 years, I still have not quite "found" myself. I guess this is what's travelling supposed to do for you. It allows us to rediscover ourselves, and in the process make us better people, :-)

The most profound trips I've had were my first visits to Paris, Seville, and Marrakesh.

Route 66!
There is a Spanish-French-Moorish side of me with a little hint of gypsy that is intrinsic for some unexplainable reason. Did you ever think of a place (or places) where you are drawn to for some unexplained reason?  I have a special fondness for the south of Spain (Andalucia region), south of France, and the northern region of Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt) and last but not least, Cuba. Could I have been born in those places at one time or another? Now that I think about it, I am interested in a past-life regression therapy. Maybe not. I just know that there are certain things or places that you are just drawn to, and this comes from a deep place within one's own subconscious.

I resolve that, as of this year 2010, I will be devoting future travels to places that don't only quench my thirst for knowledge about the world and how it works, but also to provide myself with a deeper understanding of who I am, and in the process allow me once again to rediscover myself. Welcome 2010, and to fellow travellers who are seeking themselves like I am, safe travels!

Thank you, TravellingAuntie. It was written over a cup of coffee this morning! The capacity to travel is the best gift I could ever have, :-)
