Javanese lady and her rattan bagpack
Derived by the word from Holy Quran Al-Qudus, Kudus is located at the northern coast of Central Java. It isn’t in anyone’s itinerary but I decided to give it a go. And the trail continued abruptly by staying at this bizzare hotel. This is by far the most horrendous smell of home-stay I got. Not just the smell of rats but the amount of pets Hotel Air Mancur puts at the front desk adds to dreadfulness. What kind of homestay that puts rabbits, hamster, birds at the reception? Surely it’s not a pet shop but the smell makes it like one. The feeling of luxurious Duta Homestay in Wonosobo
cancelled out by overnight in this awful hotel.I was brought into the first cheaper room but it was full with rat’s excrement. All this happened when my first hotel of choice Hotel Kopedang Asri totally been upgraded that listed price in the LP book no longer applies.
Face of Java
Lonely Planet you suck cos you have not updated your edition. There’s not many hotel in-town, therefore this was one and only option in the thick of the night for 70,000 Rp.
Kudus, the part that I stayed is highly industrialized of major cigarette factory. This is where the famous Nusantara cigarrete of Kretek first produced. However on the other side of the river that cuts the town is the oldest part where it’s mimicked by narrow streets of Middle East. This is where the Muslim in Indonesian Archipelago coming for pilgrimage. Together with Demak and Semarang, Kudus is where Islam took the leap when Majapahit fell from Hindu and the region converted into Islam.
