Surprisingly good beach

Desaru was much hyped in the 80s with quite a few mega projects aimed at attracting foreign investment and visitors, which have since been abandoned. Today, it's strictly a local affair with the occasional Singaporeans thrown in: there are no chic boutique, fancy restaurants or hip nightlife spots, just 22 kilometers of beach and a few aging resorts.

After a period of neglect, recently Desaru has become popular with tourists wishing to see a true Malay resort without for-tourists frills. The long stretch of beach is surprisingly a good beach waves.

Like all of Malaysia's east coast, Desaru is highly seasonal, with monsoon winds and rains lashing the coast between November and February. There is still plenty of sunshine even during the winter, but waves are high and it rains more. The "good" season is thus April to October, with June to August being the busiest months, when the waters are inviting and the sand fine. The one thing that makes people come to Desaru is the beach - to enjoy the clean and sandy beach. The beach is quite unique as the sand is quite grayish and you can walk nearly 50 meters into the sea without it getting deeper than 4 feet (1.5 m). Desaru has one of the best beaches of Johor mainland. But another thing that annoys me is the rubish. Obviosly Malaysian are still lack of nature awareness.

I don't really know exactly but hearing from friends/acquittance saying it's not the best for beach anymore.I've been to Pulau Sibu at the north of Tioman. Yeah about the rubbish I think it will never change with the mentality Malaysian has.

Oh, no, how has Tioman changed? It used to be absolutely wonderful although over the years as I visited it became a bit overrun with rubbish. I think they had a big problem with disposal back then - which is a long long time ago. Time enough to fix it or have the problem get worse.

Yeah Tioman was nicer too back then but now I'm not too sure. Desaru on in the other hand is surprisingly has a great looong beach and big waves.
