Bangsal port with local playing cards watching people go by

Early morning I checked out Tjabe Merah Losmen in Ampenan Village some km away from Senggigi. I planned to find another 2 nights accommodation in Senggigi and possibly overnight in Gili Island and some snorkelling. Looking at Senggigi town, backpackers feel to it, internet next to next, snorkel and other tour agent’s line up, I approached them and it’s just lead to more disappointment. So screw them I’m doing everything by myself. After I checked-in into Sonya Homestay, luckily day hire motorbike easily arranged just like in Bali, I rented one for 50,000Rp and ride it all the way to Bangsal, the port to Gilis 50 km away. Senggigi to Bangsal passing rural seaside villages with mature palm trees and long stretch of clear water sandy beaches and VERY FEW tourist! Wait, no tourist in sight!

The road infrastructure is tip-top though a very winding climbing up and down the coastal path.
Crystal clear water even at the pier
But it’s definitely safer than biking in Bali with less traffic on the road. Forty minutes ride in a very pleasant coastal road I finally arrived Bangsal port, parked my bike for 5000 rp and bought boat ticket to Gili Trawangan for only 10,000 rp. I had to wait till the passenger’s full to board though, that’s the pace of local way. The carter boat or the money grubbing tour package will however departs by precise schedule but I’m nowhere touching them.

Landed on Gili Trawangan by a fully loaded boat filled with locals carrying Island sundries, fuels etc, the lively Gili of Trawangan has a clear water nice beaches and ranges of hotel to losmen that surely attracts tourist spending days there. A group of 3 Gilis, Gili Meno, Gili Air and Gili Trawangan is Lombok’s answer to Bali.
Gili Trawangan Lombok

Thought that I won’t have ample time to venture snorkel and back to Lombok the same day by boat at 4pm, decidedly I gave snorkeling a miss this time. A quick strolled along the beach and found a nook of my own, took of shirt and jumped into crystal clear water. The coral is visible by naked eyes. Funtime on the beautiful and clean beach overlooking Lombok main land with Mount Rinjani dominates the backdrop.

I was happy to know I beat those bloodsucking tour operators. Earlier I asked them how much it would cost a day tour shuttling from Senggigi to Gilis snorkelling that cost 400,000Rp. Well I went to Gilis by myself and cost only 80,000 and if I had done snorkel it would cost me only 150,000Rp in total. See how much different that is? I beat ya sucker.

And I still have the usage of 24h rented motorbike. Tomorrow I’m venturing again to the secluded Lombok Beach.

Good Day,

You said you stored you scooter at the harbour when going to Gilli. Is it safe, are there allocated parking bays for overnight storage?
