Impressive symetrical stupa of Borobodur, Java
Early morning I woke up to get to Borobodur
by Transbus and another bus to Borobodur town. Yogyakarta has a same system of public bus as in Jakarta
. A proper halte (station) complete with ticketing man, turntable gate and a bus which dropped passenger at the exact door similar concept with metro. I don’t know if there was a bus direct to Borobodur from Pasar kembang where the bus/train station intercange. I took transbus from city center to Jombor station some 4 km north Yogyakarta and another bus to Magelang
and stopped at Borobodur midway.
It wasn’t a strange atmosphere before the ticketing counter where countless touts and warung selling souvenir and meals.
Reaching the ticketing counter I pulled out 17,000rp for the entrance fee, I was unaware that it was the counter for Indonesian tourist thus the guy pointed out the next counter specifically for foreigner. And my jaw dropped to know the entrance fee is 117000 rp! A 100% more than what local has to pay! This reminds me of reading a journal by James1985 on his encounter how racist this way is that he used un-filtered words expressing his anger. http://www.travbuddy.com/travel-blogs/47493/If-you-ask-me-bloody-racist-23
I felt the same way too.
Borobodor built by millions of stone blocks in a form of massive symmetrical stupa wrapped around a small hill in a serene setting of lush green and paddy fields. It’s also surrounded by a range of Volcanoes Mountains. The Borobodur region itself has supremely beautiful landscape of impossibly green rice field and traditional rice-growing Kampung way, overlooked by soaring volcanic peaks.
