The herb garden

We leave Thekkady after breakfast and head to Kollam, one of the main hub towns of the famous Kerala backwaters. This is a 900 kilometer network of waterways that line the coast and run far inland.
To make the trip a bit less long and tedious, we visit a herb garden before we leave the Periyar area. This garden is a lush oasis full of beautiful plants, flowers and herbs and a guide points out which is which. To our surprise he even knows most names of plants and herbs in Dutch.
There is also a small shop at the garden, here you can buy all sorts of natural and homemade stuff like tea and spices. I’m intrigued by a small bottle of bright yellow liquid. It’s mosquito repellent and since mosquitoes love me no matter how much DEET I use, it might come in handy.
The cashier warns me not to use more than one teeny tiny drop on my skin, since more of the stuff leads to burns on the skin. It’s usually sufficient to just keep an open bottle next to your bed. I’m starting to think I might as well get some hydrochloric acid to keep the mosquitoes away, but decide to buy it anyway. It’s natural and therefore can’t do that much harm.
