Basilique du Sacre-Coeur

On day two we headed straight to Place St. Michael in the Latin Quarter to meet up with the New Europe Free Walking Tour (a recommendation from our hostel roomates). It poured rain the entire day but that didn't stop us from walking around Paris for a good five hours, seeing all the major sites. Even though we much prefer the freedom of taking our time and choosing our own route for sight-seeing, the tour really was quite informative and our guide was entertaining so it was a good way to spend a rainy day.

We headed back to our hostel after the tour to change clothes (we were soaked) and have a little rest and then found a little restaurant in Montmartre for an early dinner. Afterwards, we returned to the plaza below Sacre-Coeur (our friend from our first night was nowhere to be seen) and climbed up the stairs to the Basilica.

The church itself and the views over Paris were amazing. We wandered the lane to the right of the church (when facing away) for more beautiful views of the city and the Eiffel Tower in particular and then descended the steps in hopes of making our way to Place du Tertre. However, we quickly realized that we needed to be at the top of the steps we had just climbed down so up we went again (at least it was good exercise). We wandered around the square, popular with artists and muscians, and then sat down at one of the way over-priced outdoor cafes for some tea. Lesson well learned but you still couldn't beat the atmosphere!

We headed back to our rooms around 9pm because we could both feel colds coming on and thought a good nights rest might be a good idea.
