Amsterdam - Day One

We slept in a little bit on our first day in Amsterdam and then headed out to the Albert Cuypmarkt, a street market located in the De Pijp area of the Oud-Zuid district of the city that is completely closed off to traffic during market hours. The variety of goods at the market was quite impressive. We filled up on fruit smoothies and fruit salad for breakfast from some of the many produce stands and then spent a few hours wandering up and down the rest of the street and visiting the other stands, from fish to clothing. The market has a very multicultural feel due to a lot of the selection coming from Turkish or Morrocan origins and the streets surrounding the market feel similar as well.
After the market, we headed back to the hostel to drop off our newly purchased goods and then headed back towards Leidseplein square with the intention of wandering through Vondelpark after purchasing some picnic foods from a grocery store along the way. We ended up finding the perfect spot not too far into the park and didn't feel like leaving it once we got settled in so we didn't explore as much as we wanted to but it was still a lovely, relaxing afternoon.
In the evening, we headed out to an outdoor Indian restaurant that we had eyed up on our way to Vondelpark and had one of the best meals of the entire trip. It seemed funny to be eating Indian food (we figured we should be eating the local delicacies) but we realized afterwards that Amsterdam really is a very multicultural city when it comes to food so we didn't feel too bad. After dinner we spent a few hours walking off the meal before returning to our room.
