The Great Ocean Road

I had heard from a TravBuddy who was going to be in Melbourne the same time I was that the Great Ocean Road tour was a great thing to see and that we should do it. So, I decided to join her on this adventure. Wow, was I ever glad I did. Despite getting off to a horribly early start I was so glad to be on the tour. We were on a not-so-large bus, but it wasn't terribly crowded and our tour guide was fabulous.

The Great Ocean Road was beautiful from the moment we started out on it. It took us an hour or so to get there, so we did have to endure some dull, boring freeway between Melbourne and Geelong. Along the road we were able to stop in some nice towns, had some tea and biscuits, and went on a walk through a rain forest.
The Twelve Apostles
The highlight of the first half of the trip was seeing koalas for the very first time, especially the one who was actually awake and eating and within a foot of me at one point. Such a pleasure to see that. I want to die and come back as a koala. 4-5 hours awake eating and 19-20 hours sleeping. That's the life. We also were able to come across a field with a bunch of kangaroos. So in the same day I was able to see the 2 animals most associated with Australia.

The highlight of this trip, though, was the scenery. Toward the end of the tour prior to heading back to Melbourne we came to the Twelve Apostles. Just a tremendous natural site. The entire coast near the Twelve Apostles was phenomenal. What a fabulous trip. Highly recommended to anyone.
