Koh Tao - Getting my PADI Open water and some sighseeing

I went to Koh Tao because people have told me that there is great diving here in Koh Tao and there are a ton of diveshops offering quite affordable Open Water courses. When i went to buy my train ticket in Bangkok the guy behind the counter asked 230bath to Chumpon even if the Thai Railways website said it was around 80bath. I showed him the site and he seemed quite angry at first, but offered me the fare on a regular train the next day. I went with the 234 bath fare because it was a night train which meant i saved on accomodation (220bath in Bangkok) and i hate spending the days i can be experiencing the world sitting on a train getting from A to B.
After a very painful painride (trainride) from Bangkok to Chumpon on 3.rd class i finally got out at Chumpon and sat around for around 1hour before the bus picked us up and got us on the catamaran to Koh Tao. There are several people on the boat offering dive courses and i went with the guy from "New Wave Diving" after he said that they where leaving at 6:00 AM , two hours before the other dive schools. The tradedown was worse accomodation, but since i came here for the diving i went with him and paid 9000 Bath for 3.5days of schooling/diving and 4night of accomodation. The price in Norway is around 10.000 bath for the education only so it is a fair deal compared to home considering the accomodation. Dive courses in Norway are generally quite cheap compared to other places , but i dont really know why since everything else is expensive

I stayed at "Bow Thong Resort" which has bungalows for 600 Bath a night.
Not great value, but its just a 10sec walk to an area of the beach which sees very few people and a very quiet and relaxing place its really not bad if youre looking for an quiet place on the beach

Diving is cool! After finishing my dives and gained the Open Water certificate im certain that im going to do quite a lot of diving here in SE Asia before i go home as i really enjoy being close to the seafloor and being sourrunded by fish and close to the Corals. Several member of my family is also divers and im thinking about taking a few follow-up courses like "Advanced Open Water , Wreck Diver and Cavern Diver" to join them during their dives :) In the end I didnt really take any other courses , but i really regret it since i really want to take Advanced Open Water. Guess i can take it in Malaysia.
