under the water you can see the old road
After we enjoyed the buffet-type lunch in the hotel, we wanted to explore the area a bit. I figured shopping in Finike
is not really what I wanted to do, but there was an ancient city close by, that we wanted to take a look at. I was not sure if it was even open, as I read on Wiki that the Austrian are still digging around in there. So, we just gave it a shot and tried to find it. It was a little difficult, as we could not see the sign pointing to it, so we ended up driving into Finike and then back the way we came. Hmpf. nevertheless, we finally did see some old stones and pulled up at a gate. two very strange looking guys were there. First they did not say anything, but when we obviously wanted to take a closer look they pretended to open a gate, which lock has obviously not worked for a while.
ahhhh, I know this. they pretend to be a tourist guide and then take you money. Hihihi, well we were polite enough, let them show us around. the older one was obviously mentally challenged and a nice man. The teenager was bad news. But, I had nothing major on me, my camera only works whenever it wants to and they were of course trying to check how much money they could expect. Makes me so angry. They gave us fake names, so i was sure there was something wrong, but stupid as they were, they called each other by their real names. Nevertheless, we took some pictures and they wanted some money, when we got ready to leave. I had given one five TL and then the other one wanted another 5 TL, I told them NO and he got pissy. I told him I own a museum card and do not have to pay anything, and the older one, said it was okay, but the teenager get bugging me, then wanting a ride and then seeing what all I had in the car.
He then pointed to the water bottles. I assume he thought it was sprite. He asked for one of them, but when I said you would like a bottle of water, well sure.... he declined. But, the did want my pen. It was ridiculous really. After I declined the ride into town (did this before and some of my stuff was gone, so NO WAY) he said the road is not going to the hotel, I must drive through town - which of course was a lie also. My son felt sorry, as he had broken shoes, but I have learned that this is just a scheme for the tourists. Besides, he did have money for cigarettes, so I did not feel too bad for him.
there is a big wall and obviously this is NOT the entrance. The theater is still in good shape, but very littered and lots of graffitti.
We got to see some of the church or temple and the interesting part was the water flowing along what used to be the main street. Very beautiful to look at. I would have spend more time there, but felt very uncomfortable with those two guys. So we only took short looks and tried to take pictures with a camera where I cannot see what I am aiming at
