When you think of France, the Eiffel Tower automatically comes in mind. If you know the country a little bit better you might even think of the snow in the French Alps or the palaces along the Loire river. But thinking of France the last thing that will come to mind will be a tropical rainforest. Well, in the French department "Guyane" you WILL for this jungle; a piece of French paradise in the northeast of South America.
I went to visit "La Guyane" for only 1,5 weeks, but because the country is pretty small it gave me the opportunity to get a really good image of this interesting part of the earth. I spent a few days in the capital Cayenne, where I saw the old centre, the weekly fruit- and vegetable market and a festival with reggae music and other Caribbean music. But also I saw the wide surroundings of Cayenne; the Loatian village of Cacao, the nature around Kaw and the beach of Montabo.
Further away from Cayenne I went to see the Space Centre in Kourou, where the most of the rockets in the world are being launched from. And after that went on an adventure on the Maroni river, where I helped some friends who were moving to a small village upstream. This is where I spend my last days; in the village Grand Santi, before flying back home.
