Surrounded by some of my students in Fuo, Ghana

For years, many years, I had been dreaming about going to Africa. For some reason the continent had inspired me for years already. In July 2006 I had a preview of the continent already, during my trip through the South of Africa. Later that year, in October I left for a longer stay; three months this time. Three months in the Black Star of Africa, Ghana.

I went to Ghana to do voluntary work. I went to teach in a primary school, near the northern city Tamale. I ended up teaching in a small computer school, teaching children from 10 to 12 years old how to use a computer, but also how the spell, and how to do simple calculations. Lovely work with a lot of lovely children.

And apart from this works, luckily I got the chance to travel around this beautiful country too. I litterly went to basically every edge of the country; from the elephant in the northern jungle to the slave castles at the coast in the south. And from the Volta River in the northwest to the capital Accra in the southeast. A wonderful experience altogether, that made me love the country. A look through my photos will most certainly show you why I have a piece of Ghana in my heart...
