The Trafalgar Falls on Dominica

Being on Guadeloupe you can see the small island of Dominica at the horizon when the sky is clear. Having read and heard a lot about the beauty of this country, this was the perfect opportunity to go and see it! Dominica is not to be confused with the Dominican Republic: the Dominican Republic is 65 times bigger, and has 134 times as many inhabitants then the small Dominica. But although it is a tiny island, it has a lot of beauty to see.

First of all, the vibe of Dominica is very pleasant. It clearly is a real Caribbean island, with its relaxed atmosphere, friendly people and sunny character. But away from the cities Portsmouth and Roseau, where you can feel this, the natural beauty takes over and overwhelms you. Waterfalls, natural pools, black beaches, powerful rivers, and green forests everywhere, that's what the inland of Dominica looks like. The perfect to visit this area is by renting a 4x4, but taking one of the minibusses, that operate as a public busservice, works fine as well.

Whatever you do, don't make the same mistake as thousands of people do, by coming here by cruiseship, visit the island for half a day and leave again. Three to four days is the minimum really to get a good impression of what Dominica has to offer. A lot, for such a small country!
