The Carlton Hotel in Cannes: I slept there!

Andy Warhol talked about the famous "15 minutes of fame", and in April 2008 I had mine! In 2008 Sony organised the "World Photography Awards" for the first time: the photography version of the Cannes Film Festival, same location, same organisation. These awards are for both professionals and amateurs, but because I was working for Sony at that time I was excluded from the competition. Therefore a separate competition was organised for all Sony Employees worldwide...and I won!

The winning picture was a picture I took in Tamale, Ghana. At the end of the Ramadan loads of people were heading for the central square there for their prayers, and I took a picture of one of the trucks that was packed with happy, celebrating people. The rewards was a very nice digital camera, and even better: a trip to the award show in Cannes for two persons!

There I stayed in the Carlton Hotel, one of the most luxurious hotels in Cannes. I was invited to the gala dinner and award show (emtering over the red carpet), to the reception, and the next morning I started with a great champagne-breakfast in the hotel! Plus: the trip to Cannes was the first time for me flying business class... :)
