Never in my whole life I planned a trip as impulsively as this trip to Norway. A friend of mine got a job in Bergen and I told him that I would come and visit him some time in 2009 or 2010. But when I heard on TV on a Tuesday that the weather in Norway was going to be brilliant later that week, I called my friend, took a few days off at work, and booked my ticket within two hours. Two days later I was in the plane heading for Bergen.
My first time in Norway was fantastic! Of course partly because of the weather, that was simply the best possible. But apart from that I was so pleasantly surprised about the atmosphere and the landscape in Bergen. Although it is the second biggest city in Norway, it doesn't feel like a busy place at all, and within a few minutes you can be outside of the centre in the middle of beautiful nature: perfect for a late night bbq during summer. And those bbq's bring me to the second thing: the atmosphere! I was surprised by the Norwegians that are real outside-people. Sporting in the weekend, bbq-ing outside in the parks every night and swimming in the icecold fjords.
The combination of a great landscape, perfect weather and that wonderful atmosphere made this trip to Bergen one to remember!
