Circling Male'

For the first few days in Maldives, we were busy on the job. But, we have decided to enjoy our weekend. As we were concluding our work on Thursday by 12:00pm, I have taken opinions from our colleagues on moving around Male'. Most of them opined to follow the "ring road" for having a round of Male'. Some of them said it may take maximum of 20 minutes to cover the entire circle. We set our plan to start our morning walk at 7:00am and stick to the "ring road", and we did start our walk on time.

Oh! I missed out to mention about our accommodation. We were given accommodation in one of our colleagues 'home stay facility'. A very nice bath attached room with space for cooking, dining, and stay, near to the beach. By mentioning beach, I meant artificial beach. Artificial beach of Male' is an attraction all time and we used to spend an hour every evening after 8:00pm there. Nice breeze and sound of waves were soothing.

Back to the walk-- As we walked out of our accommodation we crossed joggers. Foot ball fans and players were gathering in the ground nearby. We pushed the land beneath and moved ahead to see morning swimmers enjoying their dip. As we passed the beach we stepped on to the foot path touching the ocean and could watch fishes in different colors. Green, blue, yellow, orange, black, silver, red, and so on. Some kids were trying their luck in the early morning to catch a couple of fishes. With all enthusiasm and energy we moved ahead. As we completed 20 minutes of our walk we tried to identify the places but no trace of any known land. Concluding our speed is poor we walked further. On our way we came across many mosques, official buildings, play grounds, schools, hotels, and so on. 90 minutes of walk gifted us fatigue. Smiling face of Sun turned red and fuming. Our speed declined further but, we still walked ahead. We came across many dhonis (small local style boats), luxury ships, speed boats, and simple motor boats, as we crossed boat jetty. Oh Yeah! We can see people playing their holiday in the artificial beach as a small spot far ahead. As we reached the beach, clock was showing 9:30am. I realized that our colleagues played a prank on us but, if it was otherwise, I am sure we would never ever think of circling Male’.

Male is not only one of the world's top tourist destinations but it is also a fine shopping destination. Male city is composed of four islands – Male’ Island, Villingli Island, Hulhumale’ Island, and Hulhule Island. Hulhumale’ Island is an artificial island while Hulhule Island is the airport island. The island offers many attractions to the tourists such as Grand Friday Mosque, Old Friday Mosque, Tombs of legendry saints, the National Museum, Whale Submarine of Male, Male local market, and Male fish market.
