First time I’ve been to Budapest I only manage to see Pest, the east side of the Danube, where basically the whole city centre is, but didn’t cross on the other side o’ the Danube in Buda, on the hilly side. So the plan was to visit the west side of the river and take a snapshot with the very beautiful Hungarian Parliament.

Checked in the Ginkgo hostel just near the Elizabeth Bridge in the heart of the city and with a map in my hands went about and explored the place as the weather sunny and fair.

Tip: Streets in Budapest, at least in the centre for what I know, are very well marked so if you have a map it will be very easy to find your way around.

me and former Celtic player Willie McStay

While in Budapest the Old Firm took place, which is the football derby of the city of Glasgow between Celtic and Rangers, so as a die hard Celtic supporter I went to the Caledonia Pub, owned by a Scotsman and saw the match there with dozens of other nutters like me and we screamed our breaths out in front of the TVs. Eventually Celtic lost 2-1 and beside the obvious disappointment of all the Celtic fans there and the genuine excitement of a couple of Rangers supporters, the evening was a good one and had fond memories. Especially that I met a football legend, Willie McStay, a former Celtic player between 1981-1987, ex Celtic Youth and Reserves manger and current manager of Ujipest Budapest Football Club. Great modest guy and we had a chat and a drink at half time and told me some memories about his time at Celtic.

And last but not least, I met Lyvvy (Livia) a travbuddy living in Budapest and she took me to a great bar with cool and weird decorations. We went to a rock concert as well where I met Lyvvy’s friend Judit and her boyfriend. It was all great fun and the atmosphere was very good, hundreds of people around and drinks goin on. So thanks Lyvvy for the great time! (and sorry for not postin’ this blog earlier but I was a lazy arse)

So this was my last stop before retuning home and when I hopped into the bus that took me back home I was just thinking that fun was over, work was waitin’ and I was back to te real life…
