Since my car had to leave country for tax reasons -and I was not able to leave country for personal reasons, I asked my son if he would like to drive it till I return. So, he was going to come with his friend to pick up the car and drive it back to Germany. But, as things often go.. it did not work out as planned so he talked my daughter into going with him. And a day before they came, my mother decided to come along also, as she hates to fly and figured this way she would not have to fly by herself and would have help with luggage....
As the kids only had a few days, before going back to work, we tried to cramp in as much as possible in a day, so morning it was beach, lunch we headed to Aspendos.
.. it is the only "ruins" close to home and big enough were it is worth seeing.
I had seen Aspendos before as I went to a concert there before. It is absolutely fabulous and definetely worth seeing if you like history. So, mom had seen it before also and since she forgot her museum card, we waited. the children went inside, came out after an hour to go look for some of the other ruins and we have not seen them again till it got dark. The ruins are spread out over a fairly large area and my son said, next time to bring a picknick basket and go adventure hunting some more. to the kids the ruins were even more interesting and they came back fairly excited from climbing around those old rocks - who knows what stories they made up in their heads.
my daughter took a picture of something that made funny noises, as she coudl not see what it was. And after her encounter with a rather large spider, she decided to look from the outside from now on.
The theater itself is fabulous. I will never forget the concert under the stars. Very impressive and I am already waiting for the summer plays. And this time, we will bring a picknick basket before the play and go and explore more of the further out ruins that are seldom visited.
