My First Summer In London Introduction

This is me standing outside of my dorm and looking down the street!

I first started traveling when I was 19 years old.  I went to Florence, Italy for the summer to study art history which is the subject I was majoring in while attending Florida State University.  The couple months that I spent in Italy changed my life.  When I returned to the States, something inside me had changed.  All I could think about was returning to Europe.  I wanted to be anywhere in the world except for Tallahassee, Florida.  I guess it would be more accurate to say that I wanted to be anywhere besides the United States.  Luckily my prayers were answered the following summer when I had another opportunity to study art history overseas.  Only this time I was in London.  I fell in love.

It was a different kind of love than I felt for Italy.  To this day I can’t pinpoint exactly what it was that made me fall in love.  I’m not sure whether it was the energy of the place or the people that I was randomly assigned to live with that made it so special.  All I know is that I had never felt so content or happy.  I was a totally different person while I was there.  I was more independent than I had ever been (My whole life I had been pretty heavily dependent on my parents).  I felt more confident than I had ever felt before.  This may be attributed to that fact that I didn’t know anyone upon my arrival in England and therefore I had a clean slate.  I could be anyone that I wanted to be, even myself!  That summer was the first time in my life that I truly loved who I was.  I was perfectly content to just be me.  I found a huge part of myself and I honestly liked the person that I had become.

Thanks! It's my first time trying to blog so I'm just kind of writing what I feel. Traveling really opened my eyes and I can't get enough of it!
