Meandering Around Sandton

Last night, I walked to the Village Walk. It’s a little mall-type place that has a lot of shops and restaurants. The walk to it was not bad. It’s sort of behind the hotel I’m staying in (in Sandton). However, it was an uphill walk and I realized I REALLY need to get back to the gym. I was so out of breath when I arrived.
It was a beautiful night to walk. The weather is splendid. It felt like one of those breezy summer nights in Baltimore. The staff at the hotel has been extremely nice (great contrast to the people at the airport). The gentleman at the Concierge desk recommended an Italian place, Tivoli, for dinner so I checked that out at the Village Walk. The waiter was friendly. The beef ravioli was delicious. The service was a bit slow, but overall it was a good experience. I would recommend the place.
I came back to my room after walking for a bit. I hesitated to walk too far since it was already dark out. The staff at the front desk asked me how dinner was and I chatted with them for just a little. It’s always nice to learn about the locals and talk to them to get first-hand insight on your surroundings.
I came back to my room and organized my belongings in preparation for Connie’s arrival tomorrow. I went through my South Africa book and tried to be proactive by making a list of suggestions and sights to see on Monday with Connie. I’m open for whatever. I just want to walk around a lot and take in Johannesburg. I also really want to go to the Apartheid Museum, so I’m hoping we can go there.
Other than that, I slept for only 2 hours and now it’s 1 am and I am up and wide awake. I can’t fall asleep. I’m listening to my IPod while writing.
Connie will be here around 9 am and she said she’d be ready to go see the city when she got here, so I guess I should try to make more of an effort at sleeping.
