Recovery day, and checking out Copán Ruinas.

The Parque Central in Copán Ruinas. This might be my first 'hot/lazy/quite possibly dead dog picture'.

Hello all,

Well, I finally got a good night of air conditioned sleep last night.  The hotel is nice, and the A/C is certainly up to snuff.  I did get a few suspect insect bites in bed, but I was hesitant to tar a nice hotel with any accusations.  I set out to see if I would need to bail out of town tomorrow afternoon, or if there is a bus early enough to the San Pedro Sula airport so I can stay another night here.  I found out that Hedman Alas bus company is the best company in Honduras, and they have a 5:15am bus direct to SPS, and then I can connect to the airport by 10:30am at the latest.  That should give me enough time for my 11:55am flight.  Oh joy!  I can chill another day in Copán Ruinas.

I decide at this point to make this a 'lazy day'.

The cute little cathedral on the eastern edge of Parque Central.
I search for some lunch, and have some difficulty.  The town is small, and after checking about 13 restaurants I find about 10 of them empty.  One has one person inside and a good menu but thier selling point is A/C which doesn't seem to be on, and they have no patio.  My first choice is a good looking bbq joint on the east side of town.  There are about 18 people, including many locals (always a good sign), but there is only one server!  I sit hopefully eyeing up the menu before giving up after about 15 minutes.

I finally find a place with a few people in it that also has an attentive waitress on the job, I order a 'plato typico' with beef.  It is tasty, but I have problems finishing it and leave a third of my plate full.

Nice view coming down from El Cuartel.
I am beginning to think that I am more then 'run down' and that I might actually still have some kind of sickness.

I retire to the hotel and end up napping for a few hours.  After waking up I find some more insect bites, and they are certainly suspect.  I do some wikipedia checking about my 'bed' with 'bugs' in it, and figure out what is going on.  I explain to the front desk and ask to change rooms, and make sure they give me a full fumigation treatment.  I hang at the bar with my laptop, chatting with my buddy Henry back in Arizona trying to figure out if I need to change hotels or not.  As a world traveller, he is full of good info involving previous incidents.  Not wanting to change hotels, I decide to give it another night to see how bad matters are.

I chat with another friend back in the states for a while, do some blogging and then hit the sack about 1am.

Wish me luck!

Later, Phil
