Leaving Hambantota we were driving along the south coast. Beautiful scenery! Our first stop was in Matara, hotel Brown’s Beach Rest, to have coffee. The hotel has a wall clock, still set on the time the tsunami happened on Dec 26 2004. At the south coast there are many remains of houses, destroyed by the tsunami. Impressive to see.

Our next stop was at two stilt fishermen. For sure they were just sitting there for the tourists to take photos and tip them….. but still a very nice view!

A short visit at a turtle hatchery was very interesting. Remembering me of the big turtles laying eggs at night at the beach of Galibi (Suriname) which I saw almost a year ago.

Before finishing our round trip we had one more visit to make, Galle.

Galle is situated almost at the island’s southernmost point, the old town is known for its fortifications. This old Dutch quarter is declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After a short visit at noon (so very, very hot) at Galle we ended our roundtrip Sri Lanka at a beach resort in Unawatuna, close to Galle. One more week to go in Sri Lanka, mostly relaxing, and plenty of time to return to Galle (which we did a couple of times) and reflect everything we’ve seen during our round trip!
