La Habana & Playa del Este Part 2
Kristin and I still felt like we had not seen everything we
wanted to see in La Habana, so we decided to continue our walk around the
city. This time it was concentrated in Habana Vieja. We followed
the “Habana Vieja Walking Tour” that was recommended in the Lonely Planet guide; starting around
Plaza Vieja and ending around Catedral de San Cristobal de la Habana. The
decorations for Revolution Day, which was the following day, were out in full
force. Towards the end of the walk we encountered a little market where I
could have easily spent hundreds of dollars on unique artwork. Alas, I
settled on two inexpensive pairs of gorgeous leather handmade shoes.
However, if you are an art fan, remember to bring some extra money, as the
artwork is truly one-of-a-kind there!
Needing to majorly cool-down, the two of us met up with Marc
and headed to Playa del Este again. The funniest moment of the trip
occurred there. I was engrossed in my sunbathing when Marc announced that
he would be back in an hour with food and a kayak. I thought he was
joking and was just going for a walk. But, to my delighted surprise, he
returned an hour later with exactly what he promised: a kayak and food (chips,
baby food, and melted chocolate…yum)! Kristin and him then kayaked in the
ocean leaving me some time to digest the trip thus far.
