La Paz: Simo´s Birthday Banaza and a Place called Vivonne´s

Well what a weekend i have had thus far in La Paz! After all that healthy surfing, good eating and not so late nights in Iquique, 3 days here staying at the Loki hostel in La Paz has ruined all that good work! So needless to stay when trying to rest ones head in an Irish run hostel no-one really ever rests ones head it is go go go, drink drink drink, dance dance dance, a very hectic place indeed!
So our main purpose for exploring La Paz was not to get altitude sickness again and run naked around the streets in their cool weather but to meet up with some super cool travellers and celebrate Simons 24th Bday! Also an added advantage is an adventure along the world´s most dangerous road happening tomorrow YEAWWWT! Anyway so we came to party but i didnt expect it too be so outrageous and continous!!!
Arriving in La Paz is another amazing experience, sooooo many ppl movers (vans, trucks, bemos you name it) with people yelling stuff out trying to get others to ride with them at one point a three way street was grid locked with a good estimate of 60-70 vans all together absolute madness! Initially i thought great another polluted invested city full of car fumes and people in too much of a rush too smell the roses so to speak, but i was pleasently wrong! As our bus weaved through the madness of the outskirts (yes i thought the ourskirts was the city) we came over the hill to view a spectacular site, La Paz! The only way i can describe it is one giant favela (in looks) but with this real unique charm! There are so many tiny streets, lanes and roads leading in every direction each seemingly with its own story to tell and all made more choatic by the hilly terrain! We got settled into Loki and before long we had meet with our mates of the past and the alcohol began to flow! The only problem the birthday party wasnt until the next night arggghhh!!!
Not to waste all our time drinking we spent a day at the witches markets looking for cool dress ups as all our parties are dressups, found some real nice bolivian food for like 6 bolivianos ($1AUS) and generally it is not hard to find off the beaten track eateries, markets where a three course meal will set you back $3AUS with a drink!!! This place is ridicously cheap and ladies you will love the shopping like seriously im not the biggest shopping fien but i bought a few threads (go the old school ADIDAS jackets YeAwwTT) and quite enjoyed doing so! Some chick in our hostel had who has been here for a week has already sent 30kilos of clothes home she said it was more expensive to send the clothes home than it was to buy them!!!! Thwe witches markets are real cool with absolutely everything your heart may desire, traditional indigenous llama clthes, hats, shoes, food, western stuff anything!!!! The randomest thing i found to buy were dried out llama foetuses which some dude bought as a dress up prop in our hostel but thats another story.
Now Simon is a charater in himself with the dryness sense of humour ever it is great to hang out with him and he loves getting loose with Ozzies! We started the night in the hostels bar which attracts many other backpackers from the surrounding hostels as it has a bit of a reputation for throwing good parties and the bar is fairly large something similar to a Russian mansion. This is where most the fun is to be had as the bar staff love yo get you pretty happen and join in on the ridiculous behaviour that backpachers are famed for!
Now before i go any further i nearly forgot, us 5 boys have had a beard growing contest going for sometime! Some have failed and bailed out with a crack back and sack known to many as a braziliaan (see brazil blog) while others have dyed their hair! Me well i was going great guns and getting nicknames like ¨The Caddy from Happy Gilmore, Homeless and the new status Jesus¨ and could claim the lushess beard of the bunch but sadly one of the lads broke rank (for a girl of course) and shaved without provacation which set of a chain of events leaving me with the only beard! Now i have become quite attached to it and didnt want it to go but due to many pleas and protests from respectable people (not my lads) and the fact that the Bday boy´s wish was for it too go, I decided for the spirit of the dress up party to shave HALF THE BEARD!!!! This added a real edge to my character, basically a shock value!
Well the night was an absolute cracker with some amazing drinking feats (the irish bar staff are lethal and ruthless so beware), crazy Bday cake fights, great dance offs and above all the best dress ups going around in La Paz! After getting real messed up in the hostel bar we headed out to the Hard Rock Cafe which has been renamed by many backpackers as ¨DOWNTOWN TELEVIV¨ primarily because its next to an all Israeli hostel and thats where they like to party! It was a great bar with cheap drinks good music and when 20 odd ppl dressed up rock in you pretty much take over the place and can do whatever you like! There was stripping, ppl running around with their tops on their bottoms and their bottoms on their heads, great dance offs with Bolivian business men who grow to about 5 feet 2, generally a good backpackers bar! Now we partied too the earlt morning until ot closed and i was like well what a big night back to the hostel.
We headed to a place called Vivonne´s which I had heard a lot about not for the dancing but primarily for the famous Bolivian ¨Marching Powder or Charlie¨!! Throughout most Sth American places cocaine is a prevalent drug and here in Bolivia anyone and everyone will consistently offer you it and too be honest it is far cheaper than drinking! But i enjoy my brews so anyway the bday boys second wish of the night was to go to this place which is becoming famous because it is so outrageous! You get a taxi and they drop you of in the middle of nowhere it seems, In this dark little street noone around! He points you towards a roller garage and your like is this a joke!!! Then suddenly it lifts up 2 feet from the ground and this guy ushers you in through a few doors and you end up in a kitchen! He gives you a run down of prices then you enter this bar/lounge place.
So yeah it has taken me most of today to recover, apparently we have another party tonight and the death ride tommorrow will i survuve im not to sure but wish me luck! Keep enjoyong your time everyone peace from me!!!!
