The Sloth of Santa Cruz
Well I have quickly become attuned to the bumpy roads of Bolivia which is not limited to the roads but the railway system as well! We caught the 20 hour death train or as it is known to the locals ´the bumpy train´ from the border of Brazil to the interior of Bolivia, to the city of Santa Cruz! Years ago the train got its reputation as a death ride because a lot of stow aways use to die by falling off or purely dying from the cold but today it is not soo bad but it is a bit of a rollercoaster ride with apparent good views if you get it during the day, we went at night! Well we arrived in Santa Cruz with the intention of only staying a couple of nights to find our elusive sloths, do some washing and buy some cheap clothes before hitting the puma sanctuary! Like all good plans we failed miserably and ended up staying nearly a week! We done a lot of partying which included celebrating a gay birthday and getting naked in a gay bar (was actually fun plenty of laughs see pics), meet awesome people in our hostel Jodanga, someone from our hostel actually got kidnapped for a night, managed to do the best secondhand clothes buying EVER! Bargains galore in the market area which is huge and consequently we played dress ups, ate the biggest pizza of my life (76inches) and of course we found our sloth! The key was to look on the ground and not in the trees as we have stupidly been doing, doh! And the fact that we went to the famous sloth zoo kinda helped, but they are not caged they roam around the grounds freely, it is more for there safety that they have been put in the zoo grounds so dogs do not kill them as they nrrd to come to ground to defacate! They are an really intriguing but at the sametime totally bewildering animal! To this day and probably the next unless someone enlightens me I will not understand why this animal is not extinct!?! They move real slow with this uncoordinated pull, they are meant to be good climbers but i saw numerous ones fall from the trees and the rest were crawling awkardly along the ground! In any case it was great to see them they were real cool so if in Santa Cruz check out the Sloths and Jodanga Hostel! Off to the highest city in the world Potosi for some silver mines and Dynamite blowing WHOOOHAAOO! peace
