PCH
A trip to visit family in Los Angeles and plans to visit San Francisco provided the opportunity to drive California Route 1. Folowing the famous highway all along the coast was something I'd wanted to do. We'd flown in from Virginia, so rented a car for the road trip. We had a compact Pontiac Sunbrid. The Sunbird was very popular that year among rental agencies, as we saw many of them on the road.
From my family's home in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles (named for the natural formation overlooking the community), we followed the Glendale Freeway to downtown L.A., onto the Harbor Freeway, and then out the Santa Monica Freeway to Pacific Coast Highway, California 1. PCH, as Angelenos call it, winds out of Los Angeles County along the shoreline passing beaches, Malibu, and the Palos Verdes peninsula. We would follow Route 1 all the way to San Francisco.
