Fashion shoot on the front steps of our hotel
In the morning we went to "The News" restaurant on Ocean Drive for breakfast. The weather was gradually improving and - depite a cold breeze - most of the sidewalk tables were filled with diners enjoying the warmth of the January sun.

It was a short walk from our hotel down to "The News" but on the hotel's front steps, we encountered a crew involved in a fashion shoot employing a young blonde male model, a photographer, and an assistant with a reflector. The shoot didn't appear to attract much attention from passers-by. This was South Beach after all!! but we were allowed to photograph the activities before leaving for breakfast.

The News is sited on the corner of Ocean Drive and Eighth Street.

It faces a park across the street with palm trees and white sand. In some places metal uprights had been sunk into the sand with volley-ball nets stretched between and the courts had been laid out using black vinyl tape.  There were no volley ball players in the park this early but the sidewalks and paths were populated by walkers and joggers takimg advantage of the fresh sunny weather to maintain their renowned south beach forms and to cultivate their tans.

We spent the early part of the afternoon walking through the streets of South Beach and photographing some of the art deco features we found - mainly in smaller apartment buildings. Later in the afternoon we visited the Wolfsonian -on Washington and 10th - a museum dedicated to art of the early modern period that was incorporated into the architecture, decorative art and industrial design of the region. The museum is fascinating. It had about 5 floors of exhibits - some permanent, some visiting - including a whole floor about automotive design and another about lino-cuts.  The shop is full of treasures designed in the styles of the era and we stopped for a coffee and a sandwich and watched a film about the movie star who had "It": Clara Bow
