We did manage to reach Amman before 4pm and we head straight to our hotel to leave our bags. We then went straight to Citadel as it closes at 4pm. The distance is only 10mins by foot from Palace Hotel and quite easy to find. Due to the fact that Amman is a city built on hills, we need to do some bit of hike to reach the place. With the help of a local boy, he lead us to a shortcut which lead us into Citadel without paying any entrance fee. Hehe.
Being located at the highest hill in Amman, the Citadel provided us with the best view of Amman city. We saw the Ummayyad Palace, Pillars of the Hercules Temple & the Byzantine Bassilica. There's also a museum but we didn't enter. Besides taking hilltop shots of Amman, we also managed to take a glimpse of the sunset.
At about 6pm, we left the site and roam around the city. We wanted to also take a look of the popular King Abdullah Mosque but sadly, it closed its doors for visitors after 5pm. However, we did see it from the outside and it's quite beautiful. There's also a night market around the city center selling merchandises i.e. shisha pipes, lamps, food & vegetables, shoes, clothes etc. I guess that they open till around 10pm because by the time we left back to the hotel, it was already 9pm and they are still busy.
Along the way back to the hotel, we bought a pack of filafel & fries to compensate our dinner. We did meet a couple of our old friends in the hotel, that have stayed with us in the similar hotel back at Petra. So, we chatted a while in the common room. We need to sleep early as we have to depart for Jerash the next morning at 6am.
