Sign at Long Island Locks

After wandering around Black Rapids, I made my way further south toward the village of Manotick, stopping at Long Island Locks. These locks are actually right by an island called Long Island, but obviously not the one near NYC. *grin*  These locks are a bit more off the main road, and a little bit different from the previous ones I'd visited. Not only do they have the water locks, but they also have a swing bridge for cars that want to pass on to the island. I actually managed to be there when they were preparing to put the bridge across and I think I got a picture from the bottom of those set of locks. I also got a picture of some older stone steps that they've now replaced with a wooden staircase. I don't know if they were the original ones, but they certainly weren't new!

Once I finished walking around that area, I drove down to Manotick, but I didn't stay very long since I couldn't find something I wanted to eat and the village was packed with people for a celebration.

Next weekend...not sure how far I'll make it, but I'm hoping to start out earlier and at least get to the next lock at Burritts Rapids.
