Tuesday, December 29, 2009 Last Day

Today we were going to take the boat over to the white-sand beach for the day but we ended up just hanging around the pool instead. I positioned myself to watch the monkeys again. Mom and Dad took a taxi over the marina next door but it ended up being closed. Dad went back later in the afternoon. This time he walked through a jungle trail. As he was walking he ran into some howler monkeys. They were really loud and much bigger than the ones we saw yesterday. Mom got scared and turned back. She thought the noise was a jaguar or something.

Later in the day Dad ran into his favorite family that he met.

They had rented a van and were planning on going into a nearby town to watch the bull rodeo. They invited my Dad to go with them. Mom and I had a nice quite dinner and a few drinks at the bar. When they got back, they had the funniest stories. Apparently this arena was hand built by the townspeople so it was pretty rugged. They were all buying sodas for some of the little kids in the town so they developed quite a fan club. One little kid even gave Amanda, the daughter his necklace. The dad and son-in-law of the family actually got in the ring with the bull and got chased around by it. Most of the local men were doing it. Dad brought his little flip video camera and got it all on film. It looked pretty scary. I wish I would have gone!

All in all it was a great trip. It was very nice to spend Christmas somewhere warm for a change. I loved meeting all the friendly Costa Rica people (and Canadians)!
