I have always wanted to scuba dive.
Finally today, I get to do it! With the help of the Puerto Pension staff, they recommend us going to one of the scuba diving centers in the town. There were only 4 of us with one instructor and one assistant. One of our friend already have a beginners license, but for the remaining 3, it was our first time. So we decided to go for a fun dive For $80 per person, we get 2 dives.
We got our wetsuit on, masks, and other essentials, loaded up the jeep with oxygen tanks, water, and some fruits, and we were off!
Surprisingly, we didn't drive that far! Only 10 minutes away, we reached one of Puerto Princessa's beaches - The White Beach. A small strip of white sand with scattered cottages, White Beach is a simple and unassuming beach.
As we loaded the boat with our equipment, it was only 5 minutes into the water that we stopped and was ready to go! Out first dives were fantastic! We were told that fun dives are usually no more than 5 meters deep but by our second dive, our diving instructor allowed to go further deeper depending on our tolerance and I reached upt to 10 meters! That's 30 feet deep!
On my first dive, I had to go up the first couple of times because my ears were hurting too much from the pressure. But after the third time, it was gone and I leisurely swam around with our awesome diving instructor holding my back and occasionally directing me to more prettier areas. It felt that I was on my own most of the time which was great! And I even got to play with several cute Nemo's swimming around!
On my second dive, it was easier for me to go to the lower depths.
We loved our diving instructor who was very patient, knowledgable (he's a local), experienced, and very easygoing. He was very funny, too!
After scuba diving, we were exhausted but happy to be able to finally to do it. We returned to Puerto Pension, changed and got ready for dinner.
We decided to go to Kinabuch's Grill, one of the popular outdoor restaurants, who specializes in different Filipino dishes, mainly seafood and bbq. A large area of the parking space was converted into an outdoor seating area with a big screen showing a basketball game. We were seated outside and eagerly ordered food. I ordered seafood. I had to take advantage of the fresh seafood and fish dishes as it was our last night in Palawan.
Afterwards, we walked along the Baywalk.
The town turn in early and it quiet down by 9pm, so we decided to turn in early ourselves - ordered a couple of drinks from the bar, and lounge outside our rooms, enjoying the quiet night.
What a great day!
