Checked in at Puerto Pension. And loved it!
Great design like a nipa hut, homey and clean, Puerto Pension is a great place and affordable. Since our two other friends were on a budget, we didn't mind sharing a room so we got a room with a queen size bed with 2 twin cot beds, with ensuite bathroom. They were comfortable and the room was still spacious enough for the 4 of us. If not, they have seats outside the room like balcony to enjoy the cool breeze and quietness of island life.
They have a rooftop restaurant, that is also open to public, with a view of Puerto Princessa - we saw a U.S. Naval Ship conducting their routine exercise, and enjoy the sunset views. Breakfast is free for staying guests.
We decided to spend the day just walking around Puerto Princessa. Checked out the wet market (fish market), the bakeries, and just wandering getting a feel of the town.
Dinner at Kalui. Great restaurant. Specialized in seafood. Decor all in polish wood from local trees and coconut with native Filipino artworks. Food presentation very appealing.
Afterwards, we decided to hit up one of the local bars we noticed along the way. Tucked inside a small souvenir shops area, there is a seating area where several small bars are located next to each other, and with it a karaoka machine. People were singing while enjoying their drinks so we joined in, too! A few songs, bottles of beer, and long day of scuba diving, we called it a night.
What a great day!
